Fox’s family-friendly “American Idol” is headed down the tubes if Howard Stern and Perez Hilton have anything to do with it.
Stern, while now on XM Sirius Satellite Radio, dominated the public airwaves for more than 20 years as a shock jock. Regular discussions on his show revolved around celebrities’ sexual proclivities, complete with explicit language. Strippers and porn stars were regular guests. As of 2005, the FCC had fined him more than any other radio broadcaster to the tune $2.5 million. He migrated to satellite radio to escape FCC rules. (more…)

Journalists Applaud Perez Hilton, Howard Stern, as Potential Replacements on ‘American Idol’ Shock jock and vulgar gossip blogger would make for less family-friendly show
Friday, February 26th, 2010ACORN’s New Shell
Friday, February 26th, 2010The Democrats’ money-and-muscle operation is rebranding, not disbanding.
ACORN is not dissolving. But some of its local affiliates, in an effort to suggest they’re cutting ties with the organization, are giving themselves new names. The reason is money: ACORN cites a string of “vicious right-wing attacks” — and here I doff the purple pimp hat to James O’Keefe — that have made it hard for them to shake down their usual banker benefactors and nonprofit patrons. Wednesday, February 24th, 2010Good Morning America’s Bill Weir on Sunday trumpeted Barack Obama for “keeping a campaign promise” to broadcast the health care debate on C-SPAN. Counting the upcoming televised summit between Republicans and Democrats on the issue as fulfillment, Weir gushed, “…The revolution will be televised.” (more…)
Evan Bayh, Tough Chooser
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010Another senator who’s too good for Washington.
Some of us always suspected that Evan Bayh was a Tough Chooser, and he proved us right this month when, with a disdainful flourish, he announced he wouldn’t try to get himself reelected senator from Indiana. He had been giving off signals for a long time, talking about the “tough choices” that his fellow legislators refuse to make to solve the government’s fiscal problems, without once mentioning what those tough choices entail or, for that matter, making a tough choice himself. (more…)
ABC, CBS and NBC Verdict: Obama’s ‘Stimulus’ a Success, CBS Frets Public Refuses to See It
Thursday, February 18th, 2010On the one-year anniversary of the Obama administration’s “stimulus” spending bill, ABC, CBS and NBC all eagerly corroborated the White House’s claims about how it “saved or created” many jobs and staved off economic disaster, though they all offered a range of numbers and definitions (ABC: “800,000 to 2.4 million new jobs,” CBS: “about 1.8 million” jobs “saved or created” and NBC: “1.6 to 1.8 million jobs have been created so far.”) (more…)

The Trouble with Beijing
Thursday, February 18th, 2010Why U.S.–China tensions have increased.

Olbermann Appeals to Tea Partiers to Admit Racism, Real Socialists Would Support ‘Stupid Tax Cuts’
Tuesday, February 16th, 2010On Monday’s Countdown show, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann delivered a “Special Comment” aimed at Tea Party activists in which, rather than rhetorically bludgeoning them with his usual name calling, he came across as trying to reason with Tea Partiers, appealing to them to admit to having racist motivations against President Obama as the Countdown host suggested that he felt sorry for them. Before a commercial break, he plugged the segment, relaying that he would ask questions to Tea Party activists “sincerely and with sympathy.” At one point, Olbermann even seemed as if he were on the verge of expressing remorse for his history of using terms like “Tea Klux Klan” and “tea baggers,” which he referred to as “incendiary.” (more…)
Unpacking Obama’s Rationale on Terrorists
Tuesday, February 16th, 2010Do you get the sense that they have not thought this through?
Is there an organizing principle behind the Obama administration’s decisions on how to deal with accused terrorists?
Announcing that Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, mastermind of 9/11, and four of his co-conspirators would be granted a civilian trial in Manhattan while the U.S.S. Cole bombers would receive a military tribunal, Attorney General Eric Holder was bombastic but opaque. “For over two hundred years,” he intoned, “our nation has relied on a faithful adherence to the rule of law to bring criminals to justice.” How did he decide who got a civilian trial, with its lavish legal protections, and who got a military tribunal? It was a case-by-case determination, he explained, depending upon “the nature of the offense, the location in which the offense occurred, the identity of the victims, and the manner in which the case was investigated.” Not a legal principle to be found anywhere in that explanation. Painting Palin as Hypocrite for ‘Crib Notes’ and GOP as ‘Party of No’ While Letting Obama Pontificate
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010From Monday’s broadcast network evening newscasts: CBS and NBC found hypocrisy in Sarah Palin scolding President Obama’s incessant use of a Teleprompter while she had “crib notes” written on her hand during her Saturday Tea Party convention appearance, CBS followed by giving Obama two-straight minutes to explain why the public will come around to “connect” with him again and, meanwhile, ABC devoted a full story to “whether Republicans want action or are just the ‘Party of No’?” (more…)
